What we promise, and what we don’t
We won’t pretend it’s risk-free.
This archive exists to keep footage from disappearing. It is not a tool for hiding who you are.
We will
- Store your footage on infrastructure outside easy reach of a single takedown.
- Keep the original even if the social-media post is removed.
- Work to mirror the archive to established human-rights archives.
We won’t
- Promise to protect your identity. We can’t, and saying otherwise would be a lie.
- Guarantee the archive can’t be compromised or compelled by legal process.
- Decide for you what’s safe to send. That judgement stays yours.
Why this matters
This isn’t about sentiment. It’s about what survives.
When mainstream coverage is missing and posts are being taken down, a preserved copy may be the only place the full record survives.
- Records disappear fast.Posts are removed, accounts are locked, phones are seized. A copy held somewhere independent is the only thing that outlives all of that.
- Without a record, only one account survives.When the footage is gone, the official version of what happened becomes the only version left standing.
- One video is deniable. Many are not.A single clip can be dismissed. Dozens of separate recordings of the same event, from different people, corroborate each other and are far harder to wave away.
- A record protects the people in it, too.A timestamped account of what actually happened can defend protesters against false charges, not only document harm done to them.
